How can you support HOBY Maine?
I am glad you asked!
My name is Sydney Clifton and I am Leadership Seminar Chair for HOBY Maine. This year will be my 10th HOBY Seminar. I am incredibly proud of the work our team does each year to create an incredible experience for our ambassadors.
Since 1958, HOBY has been fostering a legacy of leadership by providing lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential. The signature program for HOBY Maine is our three-day Leadership Seminar. Attending students are high school sophomores from across the state, selected as ambassadors by their high school counselor or principal. The 2016 seminar is scheduled for May 29 – 31, 2015, and will be hosted at University of Maine Farmington.
Students participating in the HOBY Leadership Seminar engage in an intense learning environment, which will allow them to interact with our state’s leaders and explore multiple forms and styles of leadership. HOBY’s dynamic, hands-on, educational approach develops participants’ critical thinking, team building, and goal-setting skills. A hallmark of our program is a leadership for service challenge, which encourages students to complete a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer service in their communities over the year following the seminar. Many of our students ambitiously exceed this goal, which fosters a commitment to use their leadership skills in service to others.
Hinging on our commitment to volunteerism, 100% of the planning and operation for our seminar is completed by volunteers. Many of our volunteers return year after year and contribute to the hundreds of hours spent annually on making our seminar a success because they have personally experienced the dynamic influence of our organization.
HOBY Maine invites every high school in the state to send at least one sophomore student to attend our three-day leadership program. The cost for one student to attend the leadership seminar is $350, which includes lodging, food, seminar materials, and operating expenses.
Your contribution will enable HOBY to provide a legacy of leadership for our state. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, your donation to HOBY Maine is tax deductible. Please make checks out to HOBY Maine and mail to 26 Ardsley Ave. South Portland, ME 04106.
In addition to donations, we are also always looking for passionate, committed and talented volunteers. We have opportunities on our Board and our Seminar team. If you are interested in volunteering with us please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
