Known best and most fondly to her HOBY family as Princess Chelsea - we are excited to have Chelsea Leclerc back on staff for 2014. Chelsea will be a Junior Facilitator for the second year in a row. Chelsea attended HOBY Maine in 2011 from Noble HS and now attends Wheelock College in Boston, MA.
When asked why she volunteers with HOBY Maine Chelsea said: "I volunteer with HOBY Maine because it makes me feel good to help others. I remember how much I was struggling to realize my potential and feel good about myself in high school, so helping someone of that age who has so much to offer but doesn't realize their capabilities is really life changing for me."
Chelsea's favorite leadership quote is: "If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right." -Henry Ford
Please join us in welcoming Chelsea to the team!
HOBY Maine is seeking at least one (possibly two) Senior Facilitators for our 2014 seminar.
Our facilitation staff are critical to the success of our program. Together with an alumni Junior Facilitator, the Senior Facilitator leads a small team of ambassadors through the HOBY Maine experience. Senior Facilitators must enjoy working with outstanding youth; want to make a difference and like to have fun!
The commitment for a Senior Facilitator is Thursday, May 30th (6pm) through Sunday, June 1st (3:30pm) at the University of Farmington as well as a training seminar on May 18th in South Portland.
Senior Facilitators must be available for the entire seminar. Room and board are provided during the seminar.
If you are interested in volunteering as a Senior Facilitator please contact Sydney Clifton as soon as possible (firstname.lastname@example.org).
We are very excited to welcome Jessie Campbell to our Senior Facilitator team. Jessie is an Education Associate at the Island Institute working with helping island schools work, learn, play, and collaborate together via technology! She gets to plan field trips, set up collaborative events and projects, and visit and work with island students and teachers around technology in the classroom.
When asked why she wanted to volunteer with HOBY Maine, Jessie said: "I WANT to volunteer with HOBY Maine because I believe in supporting youth in our state to foster their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills and build their confidence in themselves."
Jessie's favorite leadership quote is: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” ― Mary Oliver
Welcome to the team Jessie!!
HOBY Maine 2014 will surely be well documented with Alex Au capturing all the greatest moments as our photographer! Alex works as an Assistant Store Manager for Hannaford Supermarkets in Middleboro, MA and is a recent graduate (2012) of Boston University with a BA/BS in Business Administration & Finance.
When asked why he wanted to volunteer with HOBY Maine, Alex said: "I believe that the youth and young people of today are the future innovators, trend-setters, and geniuses of tomorrow. I feel that HOBY is a great catalyst for empowering these future leaders and provides a fantastic outlet for development and growth."

Miranda, better known as MJ, is a 2002 Alumna of HOBY Maine and a new member of our volunteer team. She joined the curriculum development team last Fall and just recently agreed to take on the role of Alumni Advisor for 2015!
MJ works as a Learning Design & Development Specialist for Delhaize (parent company for Hannaford Supermarkets) by day and a DJ by night!
When asked why she wanted to volunteer with HOBY Maine, MJ said: "I think we can all lead from where we are, where ever we are.. There is no need to wait- you have power and influence beyond measure! High School doesn't always feel like the "best years of your life," and I know what I learned at HOBY in 2002 helped me excel in "the best of times and the worst of times." (If you find me while you are at HOBY and you can name the book I pulled that from, I'll give you a prize). Mostly, let's be honest, I really like to dance- and there is a lot of that at HOBY. You have been warned.
MJ's leadership quote is:
"I have a simple philosophy: Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches." - Alice Roosevelt Longworth

"In music, in playing the piano, sometimes you are playing at a thing and sometimes you are playing in it." - Brenda Ueland

Joann Bisson is the President/CEO of Trademark Federal Credit Union. She has over 14 years of management experience in the financial services industry. Recently, she was reintroduced to HOBY when her organization was approached for a fundraising opportunity.
Joann is an alumni of HOBY Maine and also the HOBY World Leadership Congress. In bringing HOBY back into her life, she reflected on how the leadership experience influenced her life and wants to provide that same positive impact on others. She believes that programs like this can help the sophomores develop their leadership style, confidence, and place in their communities.
Joann enjoys running and will be entering her first half marathon in May; a challenge she never thought she would attempt. Joann and her husband JT live in Portland with their two cats.
