Our HOBY Maine Alumni are making an impact, an economical impact, right here in Maine. In the past five years, HOBY Maine Alumni have logged over 10,000 hours of community service! While that number is impressive, the economical impact of those hours is even more compelling.
According to the organization, Independent Sector (www.independentsector.org), the national average for the value of a volunteer hour is $21.36. That means HOBY Maine Alumni have contributed over $200,000 of economic impact in the past five years. Our Alumni have served as mentors to students within their school system. They have helped serve food at their local soup kitchen and volunteered at nursing homes. They have walked miles in support of organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Red Cross, American Lung Association and March of Dimes, just to name a few. While many of our Alumni were giving back before HOBY, most would tell you they were inspired to do more after their HOBY experience. We are proud of the work our Alumni do and look forward to inspiring more young adults to give back in the years to come! |
